MASON CITY – “To show that Christians know how to have fun,” said Rev. Larry Day of the Victory in Christ Free Methodist Church, referring to why his congregation was putting on a community festival.
Sunday, an all day festival was put on by the church in the Frederick Hanford Park at 604 23rd Street SW. They had a car/motorcycle show, a swap meet, a craft show, food vendors (The Chuck Wagon and Tropical Sno), games on the lawn, karaoke and music and a community potluck at 5:00 pm.
“Bring your family and enjoy the fun,” is all that they asked of the public. “There is no charge for vendors to set up. This is not to get rich, it’s to provide a service. If the vendors choose to leave a donation, it will be given to places like Crisis Intervention or the Salvation Army. It will go back into the community,” said Rev. Day.
Kenny and Sam Winkowitsch had their S1 and S1Jr, Hornets and Jr. Hornets race cars there.
The heat seemed to keep some folks away.
“We haven’t had a lot of people here, they come and go. I’ve been here since 10:00 am and think if it was so hot, more people would have showed up,” Sam said.
Kenny, who works for Wild Horse Trading, in Kensett, had a van there donated by the company for the Hammer Slammer event.
