MASON CITY – Cerro Gordo County authorities have confirmed that the emergency 911 number is not operational for cell phones in Cerro Gordo county at this time.

“We are not sure when the system will be fixed,” said Dave Hepperly, communications officer with the Cerro Gordo county sheriff’s office.

If a cell phone in Cerro Gordo county dials 911, only a busy signal will be returned. The system does work for land line phones.

“We are working to get the system repaired but we can’t say exactly when that will happen,” Hepperly said.

Cell phone callers should dial 641-421-3000 to access emergency services until further notice.
