Sheryl Rozann (Yost) Smith, of Stacyville, Iowa, passed peacefully to her reward on March 26, 2026, at home, at the age of 69 following a courageous battle with cancer.
Mom was born on September 10, 1956, in Garden City, Kansas, to Wilbur and Dorothy Yost.
On December 8, 1970, she was baptized by Herman Mininger into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, in Copeland, Kansas.
On March 7, 1975, Mom was united in marriage to Rodney Smith in Cimarron, Kansas. They shared 51 years together. To this union was born one son and four daughters.
Mom devoted many years as a homemaker, faithfully caring for her family. She was known for her diligence and attention to detail, spending time each weekday keeping a clean and orderly home. When we were school age, mom worked as housekeeping and laundry supervisor at the local nursing home for several years. Mom also assisted dad with the Gray County, KS trash route. Dad and mom worked many hours together. They enjoyed quality time together, often spent over coffee.
In September 2021, Mom was diagnosed with cancer. In June 2025, she made the decision to discontinue treatments, trusting that heaven would soon be her eternal home. Prior to her passing mom stated that eternity was very special to her and she had a desire to go home. Mom was surrounded by her loving family until the end.
Mom was preceded in death by her father, Wilber Yost; one brother, Mervin Yost; and a son-in-law, Clint Enerio.
Mom is lovingly remembered by her mother, Dorothy (Wedel) Yost of Bethel Home, Montezuma, Kansas; her husband, Rodney Smith of Stacyville, Iowa; one son, Brian and wife Marsha Smith of Stacyville, Iowa; daughters Shawna Enerio, Valerie Smith, and Erica Smith, all of Stacyville, Iowa; and Starlyn and husband Duane Ensz of McIntire, Iowa; as well as nine grandchildren. Mom is also survived by three brothers: Dennis Yost and wife Gwen of Transylvania, Louisiana; Verle Yost and wife Christine of Mountain Grove, Missouri; and Roger Yost and wife Ann of Grifton, North Carolina.
Her memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00pm on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at the Heartland Mennonite Church in rural McIntire, Iowa.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday morning at the church from 9:30 until noon. Burial will take place in the church cemetery.
