Kathleen “Kathy” Larson, age 63, of LeRoy, MN (formerly of Chester, IA) passed away on February 25, 2026 at Regional Health of Howard County in Cresco, IA.
Kathleen Jo Larson was born in Madison, South Dakota on February 5, 1963. She was the oldest of four children born to Norvel and Norma (Beck) Sheldon. When she was in grade school the family moved to Stewartville, MN. She attended school in Stewartville, graduating with the Class of 1982.
Kathy continued her education, receiving her CNA license. Her working career included serving several nursing homes in the southeast Minnesota area, most recently the Stewartville Care Center. Her natural role as a caregiver made it easy for her to enjoy her job, which included caring for her mother.
In 1984, Kathy married Kevin Keller. To this union, a son, Blake was born. They later divorced. She met Richard Larson in 1992. Together they had a daughter, Nichole. The couple spent many years together and eventually married in Lime Springs, Iowa in 2016.
Kathy enjoyed quilting and having a big vegetable garden. She was always ready to go camping, whether it was to Lake Hendricks in Riceville or Lidtke Park in Lime Springs. Being outside, sitting around the campfire, and spending time with her family brought her great joy. But her true love was for her grandchildren.
Survivors include her children Blake Keller of Rochester, MN, Nikki (Alex) Logue of Elma, Chad Larson, Jimmy (Kelly) Larson and Jason Larson; grandchildren Ava, Boe and Mia, and seven additional grandchildren; along with several great-grandchildren; sister Kelly (Mike) Yennie of Stewartville, MN; brother Chris (Monica) Sheldon of Zumbrota, MN sister in-law Christy Sheldon of Rochester, MN; and eight nieces and nephews.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Richard in 2020, brother Kenneth Sheldon and a granddaughter MaKenzie Swanson-Larson.
Her family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to St. Croix Hospice for the love and compassionate care they shared with Kathy.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
