MASON CITY – Scores of employees are being told to hit the trail at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City.

The announcement was made recently via Iowa’s WARN Notifications web site.

MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center, located at 1000 4th St NW in Mason City, will implement 34 layoffs on or before March 17. This is classified as a “mass layoff” according to the site.

The positions involved in the layoffs was not specified.

The layoffs are not likely due to improving health in the community, as most folks are old, obese, and not real fit – both physically and mentally.  Most likely, the for-profit health system mandated fewer employees in order to maximize a healthier bottom line.  Simultaneously, artificial intelligence is lurking, as thousands of jobs in all sectors of the economy are adapting to this burgeoning phenomena. Reportedly, humanoid robots are rolling off assembly lines in Tesla plants as car production is phased out. These robots will be doing jobs humans do now, and it won’t be long before many people lose out to these “Optimus” robots. Oligarch billionaire Elon Musk has stated that in the near future, AI and robots will be performing surgeries and other care, now performed by doctors and nurses. These 34 layoffs are likely the tip of the approaching iceberg.

  1. Is it 34 jobs on the line, or “scores” of jobs? A score, as a measure, is 20, as in “Four score and 7 years ago … ” which was how Lincoln measured the 87 years between 1776 and 1863 when he delivered the Gettysburg address. I think that’s the only context I’ve had for score as a measure.

    1. No, it is from NIT saying trump’s administration is going to dismantle our economy so only the rich are able to pay for healthcare.

      1. Trump didn’t invent AI. USA economy is extremely strong for the top wealth-bearers. Low-end earners or fixed-income folks are getting crushed.

        1. Wow was that article about Trump taking away welfare so low end income people don’t have to try and improve their lives on their own.
