Mason City — Shirley M. Suby, age 93, of Mason City, passed away on Monday, February 2, 2026, at Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City.
Memorial services will be announced in the coming days.
Burial will be in Elmwood–St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City.
Memorials may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church in remembrance of Shirley.
Shirley was born June 19, 1932, in Mason City, the daughter of Cleo and Margaret (McIlhatton) Bartusek. She attended Mason City schools and graduated from La’ James College in Mason City. She operated Shirley’s Beauty Shop from her home for more than 50 years.
Shirley was united in marriage to Leon W. Suby on January 1, 1948, at The Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.
Shirley and Leon traveled extensively over the years.
She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she served as a deacon, participated in the choir, served as hostess “Olga” at the church bazaar, and contributed to the Board of KCMR.
She is survived by her daughter, Crystal Wass of Norfolk, VA; her son, Scott (Kathie) Suby of Schaumburg, IL; three grandchildren, Jordan, Kaitlin, and Ryan Suby; her sister-in-law, Linda (Tom) Price of Mesa, AZ; her brother-in-law, Allen (Nadine) Suby of Ankeny, IA; and several nieces, nephews, and other family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leon; and her brother, Bob Bartusek.
