OBIT: Debra S. Baker

Debra S. Baker, 68, of Mason City, passed away on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center. A celebration of life will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at the Masonic Temple Association of Mason City.

July 3, 1957 — January 24, 2026

Debra S. Baker, 68, of Mason City, passed away on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center. A celebration of life will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at the Masonic Temple Association of Mason City, 304 1st St SE. Burial will be held in Oakland Cemetery, Forest City. Memorials can be directed to the family of Debra Baker.

Debra Sue Baker was born on July 3, 1957, in Wichita, Kansas to parents Newt and Darlene Bryant. In 1958, her family moved back to North Iowa. Deb attended elementary school in Clear Lake then attended Grant Elementary, Rosevelt Elementary. The family then moved to 1518 Monroe – the house that built her. Attending Monroe Junior High then Mason City High graduating 1975. Deb was the oldest of four kids. She did a lot to help keep the house going so mom and dad could both go to work. Deb would be sure the supper was cooked and ready for when mom and dad would come home from the packing plant. After high school Deb got the chance to spend time over in Italy and Germany. When she returned to Mason City she met the love of her life, Billy E. Baker Jr. On July 31, 1981, they were united in marriage in Sioux Falls, SD.

Deb started her working career at AC Neilson’s in Mason City as a Data Entry Specialist and did so for many years. Data Entry was how she got her love for numbers. She later took part-time positions at Walmart and at the Holiday Inn. Deb also had the job of keeping the home in order while Bill traveled for work as a Cement Mason.

Deb had many hobbies, such as falling in love with racing. She would always look forward to the end of the week when Bill came home from being on the road for the two of them to travel to see the races whether they were dirt track or Nascar races. She also fell in love with playing bingo. At one time she would play five days a week.

Deb is survived by her husband, Billy Baker Jr.; sister, Ellen Bryant and special cat Ringo; brother-in-law, Jeff Baker Sr.; sister-in-law, Dustie Baker; Godchildren, Joshua Roggeman, Sharai Keough and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Jim, Julie; great nephews, John and Jim Jr.; God daughter, Teyannah Knudtson; special dogs, Gidget, Remington, Maxwell, Cody, PHD and Rosco.
