Darwin Weiss, 91, of Charles City, passed away Friday, January 9, 2026, at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City. A funeral service for Darwin Weiss will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at Trinity United Methodist Church.

Darwin Weiss, 91, of Charles City, passed away Friday, January 9, 2026, at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

A funeral service for Darwin Weiss will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at Trinity United Methodist Church with Pastor Don Preston officiating. Burial will be at Sunnyside Memory Gardens in rural Charles City.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home in Charles City and will continue one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday. Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice.

Darwin was born on May 13, 1934 (Mother’s Day) to Roy and Olive (Momberg) Weiss. He was joined by his brother, Verlon (Chuck), on September 26, 1935. Darwin attended Washington School and graduated from CCHS with the Class of 1952.

He and his brother would practice pitching softball with a target attached to the garage. Both became great fast-pitch softball players. After marrying the love of his life, Maureen, on December 19, 1954, they had two children, and would put them in the car when young and off they would go to softball games and tournaments.

Darwin was a charter member of the CCHS wrestling team. He enjoyed most all sports, NBA, NFL, boxing, bowling and fishing. His favorite teams were the Chicago Bulls and Golden State Warriors and the Vikings. He was inducted into the Charles City Men’s Bowling Association in 2002. He was an avid TV watcher. He was in the Naval Reserves for several years. Darwin was a life member of the Moose, and a 52-year member of the Elks Lodge. Darwin was meticulous with his lawn and always the first out in the spring.

Darwin began work at the Oliver Corporation shortly after graduation and worked there until closing. He was not ready to retire, so took a job with the Floyd County Road Department and worked there for 14 years. He was not ready to retire yet, so took a job with Carquest, delivering auto parts for a few years, then finally retiring.

Darwin is survived by his wife, Maureen, of 71 years, son Michael (DeEtte) Weiss, of Riverside, Iowa and daughter, Pamela Lichty (Daryl Steiber) of Lansing, Iowa, 4 granddaughters Rachel Funk, Lisa Weiss, Alissa Lichty and Cheyanne Steiber, 4 step grandchildren Daric, Dusty, Detrick and Dexter Steiber, 7 great grandchildren, 11 step great grandchildren and one great great grandchild, sister-in-law, Shirley Weiss, niece, Kary Majors and two nephews Kelly and Kory Weiss, brother-in-law and sister-in- law John and Barbara Ashley, nephew Johnny (Raedene) Ashley, nieces Sally Green and Amy (Ron) Mead and several cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents, parents-in-law Lloyd (Greb) and Edna (Boggess) Ashley, granddaughter, Lacey, and brother Verlon Weiss.
