Robert ‘Bob’ Brood, 91, passed away on Thursday, November 13, 2025 at the Rockwell Community Nursing Home. Memorial services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, November 29, 2025 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Rockwell. He will be laid to rest at the Pleasant Valley Township Cemetery in Swaledale following lunch with the family. Public visitation will be held from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Friday, November 28 at the church. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the family to be passed on to a few of his favorite charities. Woodley Funeral Home and Crematory of Hampton is caring for Bob and his family.
Robert S. Brood was born June 10, 1934 to parents Hans Peter Brood and Anna Marie (Kjarsgaard) Brood, one of six children. Siblings included Jacob (Jack), Karen Cornick, Jim, Esther Ward, and Harold.
Bob was a graduate of Swaledale Public School with the class of 1951.
He was united in marriage to Marilyn J. Davis on July 26, 1953. They made their first home together in Mason City and to this union, five children were born: Daniel, Jean, Janet, Patty, and Mary Kaye.
Bob later married LaVonne Borchardt in 1997, they later divorced.
Bob worked mostly in farming, working for Carl (Buck) Leinhaus at Swaledale Produce, Ernie and Ethel Buss, and Max and Ione Lage before he began farming the family farm. He was also employed by Farmers Grain Dealers Association (later named AGP) for approximately 25 years. One summer he worked for Carlson Construction.
Bob always had a joke to share, liked playing big-ball, golfing, and watching Johnny Carson. He always wore either a seed corn or AGP hat.
Left to cherish Bob’s memory are his daughter Jean Ditsworth, son-in-law Tom Platte, daughter Patty Brood, daughter Mary Kaye Kirschbaum (Mike), sister Esther Ward, sister-in-law Lois (Dallas) Brown, and brother-in-law Bill Sharp. Bob is also survived by his grandchildren Jacob and Jaime Ditsworth (Tyler, Brianna, Jared, Gracie), Sara and George Ditsworth-Oliver (Jarin, Lilee, Emree), Andrea and Brian Palmersheim (Addison, Anna), Kayla and Andy Sebastian (Aria and Devin), Amanda and Josh Dannen (Vinny, Emmett, Amelia), Dylan Waslick, Alex and Taylor Kirschbaum (Austin, Bridger, Harper), Dalton Waslick (Xander, Karina), as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marilyn (1991), son Danny (2007), daughter Janet (2024), and siblings Jack, Karen and Al, Jim and Betty, Harold and Etta, special friend Edna Watters, parents-in-law Donald and Marian Davis, brother-in-law Bob and Nita Davis, sister-in-law Betty and Dick Smith, brother-in-law Richard Davis, brother-in-law Les and Barb Davis, brother-in-law Fred Ward, sister-in-law Sharon Sharp, and sister-in-law Carol and Larry Wallace.
