OBIT: Cathy Ann (Coon) Askvig

Cathy passed away on Sunday, November 2nd, at home in Eagle Grove at the age of 73 years.

Catherine Ann Askvig, the daughter of Dean P. Coon and Beverly J. Miller, was born on July 29th, 1952, in Kansas City Mo. They later divorced.

Cathy grew up in Graettinger, Laurens, Renton WA, Estherville and Fort Dodge. She graduated from Fort Dodge Senior high in 1972.

Her daughter Kelly was born on April 2nd, 1973.

She worked several jobs in Fort Dodge from A & W, Marso & Rodenborn, Eddie’s Green House, and Quality Plus. She then moved to Eagle Grove in 1991 where she worked for Rotary Senior Living for 17-1/2 years, retiring July 31, 2017.

On March 20, 1993 she was united in marriage to Charles Askvig, later separating in 2022, remaining friends.

Cathy loved being outside working in her yard, going rock hunting, her favorite things were sunflowers and dragonflies. Gram enjoyed time with her great-grandchildren, having sleepovers and doing puzzles and she loved being with family and friends.

She was diagnosed with tongue cancer in 2009, then again 15 years later with bone cancer of the jaw.

Cathy passed away on Sunday, November 2nd, at home in Eagle Grove at the age of 73 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; Beverly and Virgil Togstad; brothers: Bob Coon, Rick Justice (Carol) and Virgil Togstad II; aunts, JoAnn Stueve and Janice Simington; grandparents, and brother-in-law, Denny Askvig.

Survivors include her siblings: Jim Coon, Mike Justice (Janet) of Boise, ID and Sandy Jolliffe of Buckley, WA; daughter, Kelly Jensen; four grandchildren: Alexis, Tayler, Braden and Roxanne; two great-grandchildren, Karter and Kashton Gailey; step-son, Jake Askvig; aunt, Ann Joyce and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
