Mason City man shot Monday morning, one arrested

MASON CITY - An early Monday morning shooting in Mason City has sent one man to the hospital and another man to a jail cell as police continue to investigate the incident.

MASON CITY – An early Monday morning shooting in Mason City has sent one man to the hospital and another man to a jail cell as police continue to investigate the incident.

On Monday, October 27, 2025, at 3:55 AM, the Mason City Police Department responded to a disturbance at a private residence on 29th Street SW. While responding to the scene, officers located another person involved in incident who was driving themselves to Mercy One with a gunshot wound.

At the scene, officers were able to identify the occupants of the house and located evidence of a shooting. After obtaining a search warrant for the residence, a firearm was recovered from inside the home.

Michael Anthony Orozco, age 35, Mason City, was admitted to Mercy One North Iowa with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. His injury is not life threatening.

Cody Dean Dakin (pictured at top), age 30 of Mason City, has been charged with being a prohibited possessor of a firearm. He is currently in the Cerro Gordo County Jail on no bond, pending a court appearance.

The incident remains under investigation.
