MASON CITY – A Mason City woman driver turned into the path of a semi truck this morning, and the resulting collision sent her Kia and the semi hurtling into a ditch and both drivers to Mercy Hospital.

On July 2, 2025, at 9:33 AM, the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office responded to Partridge Avenue and Highway 18 for a two-vehicle collision.  The sheriff’s office says a 2007 Peterbilt Semi driven by Gary Petersen, age 72 of Rockwell, was driving north on Partridge Avenue when a southbound 2021 Kia KS sedan driven by 44-year-old Tiffany Mussman of Mason City, attempted to make a left turn in front of the semi. The semi struck the Kia Sedan sending both vehicles off the roadway.

As a result of the collision, Mussman was injured  and was transported to MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center by ambulance.  Petersen was transported to MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center by private vehicle for minor injuries.

Mussman was cited for failing to yield upon left turn.  She was ordered to pay Iowa courts $210.25 in fines and court fees for her abysmal display of driving.  Records show Mussman was also guilty of speeding back in February and that cost her $118.25 in fines and court costs.

The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Mason City Police Department, Iowa State Patrol, and Mason City Fire Department.
