MASON CITY – An explosion in a Mason City apartment sent a tenant and a friend scurrying for safety.
On April 18, 2025, at 9:29 PM, the Mason City Fire Department responded to a report of an explosion in an apartment at 3 N. Connecticut Avenue. Fire crews arrived and found the front window shattered and damage inside the apartment. There was no fire, though, officials say. The tenant and a friend were in the apartment at the time of the explosion and escaped without injury. No injuries were reported with the incident.
The tenant was displaced from the apartment.
The cause of the explosion was ruled accidental from improper storage of flammable containers.
The building is owned by American Reality and Management.
The Mason City Fire Department remained on scene until 11:48 PM and were assisted by Mason City Police Department and Mason City Neighborhood Services.
