Justin Brent Payton, 48, of Thornton, formerly of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, passed away Sunday, March 9, 2025, at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Friday, March 14, 2025, at Thornton United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 15, 2025, at Thornton United Methodist Church with Pastor Deb Devine officiating. Justin will be laid to rest at Pleasant View Cemetery in Thornton. Woodley Funeral Home of Thornton is caring for Justin and his family.
Justin graduated from Rockwell-Swaledale High School in 1995. He attended NIACC and served in the United States Army from 1998-2004. While in the military, Justin served in Iraq (he was part of the first group deployed), Afghanistan, Korea, and Belgium. Justin enjoyed spending time with his family, making others laugh with his harmless pranks, deer watching and was a master griller/smoker. He loved his wife, children and family unconditionally.
Justin is survived by his wife, Janeesa (Perkins) Payton; children, Dylan Rios and Andrew Payton; father, Gary Lynn Payton; mother, Belva (Main) Payton; brother, Daniel (Elisha) Payton; nieces, Grace and Lexi Bray (Brody Kuhlemeir); nephew, Cale; and a host of other in-laws, relatives, friends and co-workers.
He was preceded in death by his infant brother, Charles Lynn Payton; paternal grandparents, Donald and Alveeda Payton; maternal grandparents, Earl Main, Delores Main Slagle and step-grandfather Arthur Slagle; and many other family members.
