DUBUQUE – Emergency responders were sent to a downtown location in this Iowa town after a woman was found deceased, lying in the snow in the midst of brutal cold temperatures.

On February 17, 2025, at approximately 8:56 AM, Dubuque police officers responded to the rear of 2268 Jackson Street for the report of an unresponsive subject lying in the snow. Police and Dubuque Fire arrived and located 29-year-old Alexandria Brown of Dubuque and began life saving efforts. Brown was transported Mercy Hospital where she was declared deceased.

Preliminary investigation indicates Brown was exposed to the elements for several hours. The National Weather Service shows that the high temp in Dubuque that day was 1 degree and was as low as -9 degrees, with wind chills much lower.

Brown was sent for an autopsy at the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny which will help investigators determine the cause of her death.

Police say an investigation is ongoing.
