CHARLES CITY – There was a possible injury and thousands in damages when two Charles City drivers collided at a neighborhood intersection.

Charles City police and other emergency responders were called to the scene of an accident on January 3, 2025. At 12:57 PM that day, two cars collided at the intersection of 7th Street and Hildreth Street. A grey, 4-door 2009 Honda Civic driven by 66-year-old David Litterer of Charles City was southbound on Hildreth Street when a black, 2018 Cadillac XT5 driven by 68-year-old Brian Charlton of Charles City was westbound on 7th Street. Police say the Cadillac failed to obey a stop sign and proceeded through the intersection and struck the Honda.

As a result of the collision, an ambulance arrived due to what police call a possible injury. There was $5,000 in damages done to each car.

The Charles City fire department said that firefighters on scene assisted AMR with patient care and moving them to the ambulance. Crews then worked to remove debris, and fluid spillage from the roadway.

Charlton was charged with failure to obey a stop sign and yield the right of way.
