November 3, 1937 – January 23, 2026

Gary Gerhard, 88, of Greene, formerly of Marble Rock, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2026, at the Nora Springs Care Center.

Visitation will be Tuesday, January 27, from 4–7 p.m. at Woodley Funeral Home in Greene, Iowa. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 28, at St. Mary’s Church in Roseville, Iowa, with a visitation held one hour prior to the service, with burial to follow at Roseville Cemetery.

Gary was born in Charles City, Iowa, to Carl and Catherine (Griner) Gerhard. He graduated from Marble Rock High School, class of 1956, and was married to Donna (Osier) on July 10, 1959. They were married for 66 years and lived on a farm near Marble Rock, where they raised their four children: Tim, John, Jackie, and Mike, before moving to Greene in 2020.

An avid hunter, fisherman, and skilled marksman, Gary loved spending time outdoors. He treasured fishing trips on the Mississippi River and in Michigan catching salmon with his wife Donna, often returning home with stories that made everyone laugh or question, “How is he alive?”

Family knew him for his ability to fix anything, his humor, and his knack for always backing up a story with a picture to prove it. Whether swapping tales around a table or quietly enjoying nature, he left memories that will be cherished for generations.

Gary worked over 30 years in maintenance at White Farm Equipment in Charles City, Iowa, and after the company closed, he retired from Mercy Medical Center in Mason City, Iowa.

He is survived by his children Tim Gerhard, Jackie Adams (friend Jim Ertl), and Mike Gerhard (Laura Wood), and was a proud grandfather to Kristie Bales, Jamie (C.J.) Goltz, Ashley (Brian) Gansen, Chase Adams, Madison (Chris Engels), Cole Gerhard, Kaycee Gerhard, Cade Gerhard, and Maci Gerhard; a loving great-grandfather to 18 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandfather to one great-great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Catherine Gerhard, his wife Donna, and his son John.

Gary will be remembered for his kindness, warmth, devotion to family, and love of storytelling. Those planning an expression of sympathy may consider memorials to the family, who will, at a later date, establish a fund in his memory. Memorials may also be sent to: P.O. Box 21, Greene, Iowa 50636.
