SHEFFIELD, IOWA – A Saturday night auto collision just north of Sheffield caused by dense fog sent two injured men to Mercy Hospital.

On December 28, 2024, at 7:21 PM, the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-vehicle collision in the area of Partridge Avenue (Highway 65) and 105th Street – just north of Sheffield, Iowa.

Police say that after an investigation, it was determined that 30-year-old Trent William Abbas of Wellsburg, Iowa, was traveling South in a red 2022 GMC Sierra on Partridge Avenue at the above location. At the same time, 33-year-old Scott William Weydert of Rockwell, Iowa, was traveling north in a maroon 2000 Buick LeSabre. The vehicles collided in the 1000 block of Partridge Avenue, sideswiping one another.

As a result of the collision, both vehicles sustained severe disabling damage and airbags did deploy.

Both drivers were wearing their seat belts, but apparently were injured and then transported by emergency responders to Mercy One North Iowa for injuries sustained in the collision.

Police say dense fog was a contributing factor in the collision.

The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Mason City Fire EMS and Franklin General EMS.
