Religious group cries foul on gory SNL Jesus skit

NEW YORK – Did Saturday Night Live go too far?

After a gory skit involving the resurrection of Jesus aired Saturday night, at least one religious group thinks so.

“This past weekend, NBC’s ‘Saturday Night Live’ aired an extremely violent and gory segment mocking Jesus Christ… just for laughs. And, it’s available now online thanks to Kmart, Sears and J.C.Penney,” said the American Family Association.

“The segment is a fake movie trailer depicting a Quentin Tarantino-style Jesus returning to get revenge. It’s called, ‘Djesus Uncrossed.’ Thanks to the funding by mainstream advertisers, NBC is painting Jesus as a revengeful murderer bent on killing the Romans who crucified Him.”

Watch the video and judge for yourself if the skit was out of bounds.

In truth there is humor.

The skit was nothing more than a put down of a religious belief. Finding fault with someone’s beliefs is pretty sic. I can understand the displeasure by religious groups that honor and respect life. To bad there are so many in this world that can’t do that.

The skit lacked humor because of the lack of truth.

Sorry.

I really don’t think any serious Christian or any serious non-believer would have their views of Jesus changed by that skit. As a Christian, it doesn’t change what I believe about Christ. As a human being, I see it for the simple satire that it is and was simply designed for a laugh.

But I also wondered many times, as Jesus was both man and God, whether the human part of him resented those who put him to death. Even perhaps just a TINY bit.

I can understand why some people will become righteously indignant about it. But some of you also brought up another good point: What if the skit revolved around Muhammad instead? Would the leaders of Islam around the world be calling for producer Lorne Michaels’ head on a plate, along with the rest of the SNL cast?

Perhaps the true moral of the story here is the incredible amount of anger and emotion that religious satire brings out in people. But one of my favorite paintings of all time is “The Laughing Christ”.

I like to believe that even Jesus had a sense of humor.

It’s just another example of undermining Christianity to make it a joke. Stuff like this makes it easier for people to mock others who are Christian. I didn’t find it funny at all. There is nothing wrong with what Jesus preached and it really is what morals and values are suppose to be. The reason our world is turning into a cesspool is because we are turning away from God and doing what we want for our own pleasure such as murder, rape, theft, assaults, harassment and every other thing that people are disgusted with. People on this site mock and make fun of people who go to jail for a crime and then some of you are doing the same to Christians on this blog. Why? Why does being Christian cause people to say things about them as though they are criminals? Criminals that did something that was not Christian like in the first place.

It’s pretty funny. When did Jebus become a right wing Republican that pals around with Rush and Hannity?

It’s true. Jebus is a card carrying tea-bagger it seems.

“The H is silent”,Classic.

@Reggie – The whole clip was great, but you’re right, that sentence was totally classic.

conservative christians….go figure. What a confused bunch talking out both sides of their mouth. They’ll use innocent fetus’s pictures to try to shame women who’ve had abortions and don’t mind violent videos but by golly don’t mess with their Jesus rendition..
I LUV SNL. Some of the best live humor ever done.

you hit the nail on the head. so true about many christians. love to bitch, and dont practice what they preach. there was a school in ohio fighting to keep their beliefs in the school. but SNL doesnt have any rights. mind your own damn buisness religious groups

Now a certain religious group comes to mind, calling for the death of a comic for daring to draw a picture of their “god”.

REALLY?? had not heard that. thats not the nature of most religious groups. however they do all seem to be a form of cult. with weekly or daily brainwashing.

@Joao De-I think you are referring to the Muslims who put out a death order on the comic who drew Mohamed who is their profit. They are always doing that.

Thanks, I hadn’t seen that, that’s some funny chit mon! haha

Would it be as funny if it was Mohamed instead of Jesus?

Wow-never did like SNL anyway.

that statement proves just how old you are.

I agree, SNL is nothing like it used to be. I can’t even laugh at most of the crap they do anymore.

I saw the video of the skit. I took it more as a poke at Quinton Tarantino and his films rather than a diss of Jesus and the faiths that revere him. Tarantino’s films are gross, in my opinion.
