DECORAH – A Northern Iowa student at this Christian college apparently turned to the dark side and posted scary social threats, landing him behind bars facing a felony.

At approximately 1:31 AM Monday morning, November 25, officers with the Decorah police department were notified by Luther College security of a student posting threats via Instagram. The social media posts consisted of references to a violent anime series and suggesting to “kill 80% of the students at Luther”.

The threats were confirmed by officers through their investigation.

As a result, the defendant, 20-year-old Peter Bumba (pictured at top) of Illinois was detained for questioning. Bumba confessed to posting the messages and was arrested for terroristic threats, a class D felony. A subsequent search warrant was executed on Bumba’s room and vehicle. No weapons were discovered during the search of the property.

The defendant was booked into the Winneshiek County jail. There is no ongoing threat to the community or Luther College.
