DAVENPORT – A convicted Iowa sex offender was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for receiving child pornography.

According to public court documents, Devin Lee Ortiz, 32, received and searched for child sexual abuse material using his phone in July 2020. Ortiz’s phone had approximately 550 images of child sexual abuse material. Ortiz committed this offense while he resided at the residential reentry center in Davenport as the result of a 2013 conviction for lascivious acts with a child in the Iowa District Court for Scott County.

After completing his term of imprisonment, Ortiz (pictured at top) will be required to serve a 10-year term of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system. Ortiz was also ordered to pay $21,000 in restitution. United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal of the Southern District of Iowa made the announcement.

This case was investigated by the Scott County Sheriff’s Department. This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
