James Doyel, 83, of Mason City, passed away on Monday, December 25, 2023. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at Faith Baptist.

James Doyel, 83, of Mason City, passed away on Monday, December 25, 2023. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at Faith Baptist, 1807 South Kentucky. Visitation will be held from 11 to 1 p.m. on Saturday. Interment will be held in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Faith Baptist Church.

James (Jim) Dale Doyel the son of Elmer and Leona (Welsh) Doyel was born on January 8, 1940, in Harlan, Iowa. He grew up on several farms in the area and graduated from Irwin High School.

After graduation Jim joined the Marines and was stationed at Camp Pendleton in California.

On June 5, 1960, he was united in marriage to Barbara Grabill in Fiscus, Iowa. Together they had 3 children, Jason, Jill, and Jade. After being discharged from the Marines, Jim went to meat cutter school and began a career at Fareway Grocery Stores where he worked in, and managed, the meat department for 40 years in Cherokee, Perry, Decorah, LeMars, Osceola, and Mason City.

Jim was an avid hunter and fisherman all of his life. He enjoyed hunting coon with his dogs, pheasants, prairie dogs in South Dakota, and bigger game out west. He also took many fishing trips to Minnesota, Canada, Missouri, and the Great Lakes. His family was very important to him, so he always made summer family vacation a priority, usually at a cabin on the lake with lots of fishing, boating, and playing card games with the family.

Jim was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Mason City, Iowa.

Jim is survived by three children, Jason Doyel, Millinocket, Maine; Jill (Darren) Oppman, Janesville, Iowa; Jade (Sarah) Doyel, Ada, Michigan. Eleven grandchildren, Nathan (Joy) Oppman, Heather Oppman, Tyler (Jamie) Oppman, Tanner (April) Oppman, Aubree Doyel, Brayden Doyel, Zack Doyel, Josie Doyel, Jessica Doyel, Jayden Doyel, Justin Doyel. Five great grandchildren, Henry, Violet, Carter, Molly, James Oppman. One brother, Gary (Marlene) Doyel, sister-in-law, Judy Doyel.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Leona Doyel; wife, Barbara Doyel; great grandson, Evan Oppman; brother, LeRoy Doyel.
