College Field Hockey: No. 8 Hawkeyes fall in double OT of Sweet Sixteen

EVANSTON, Ill. – The eighth-ranked University of Iowa field hockey team fell to No. 10 Louisville, 2-1, in double overtime of the NCAA Sweet Sixteen on Friday night at Lakeside Field.

The Hawkeyes started off the scoring taking the lead midway through the second quarter. Freshman Dionne van Aalsum found the back of the goal off a penalty corner assisted by juniors Lieve Schalk and Annika Herbine.

Louisville tied the game in the 37th minute when Niamh Gowing scored unassisted off of a rebound.

The teams remained tied through regulation, and the first overtime period.

With under three minutes left in double overtime, the Cardinals capitalized on a penalty corner to advance over Iowa.

Louisville had a 4-2 advantage in penalty corners, and a 10-7 advantage in shots.
