Thomas Eugene was born July 10, 1950 in Mason City, the son of Wallace Nickolas and Ardis Marion (Lockrem) Godden. Growing up, Thomas attended school in Mason City, soon beginning work with the City of Mason City. On March 14, 1970 Thomas married Sharon Sable, and the couple welcomed a daughter to their family, Mary. The couple later separated. On July 24, 1993 Thomas married his love, Kathleen J. Smith in East Park and welcomed her son, Justin to the family. Through the years Thomas enjoyed buying and selling used cars all over North Iowa, looking forward to trips and car sales throughout the Midwest.

Tom had a deep passion for cars, especially when it came to watching stock car races in North Iowa. He cherished moments spent with his beloved wife, Kathleen. His skill at the claw machine made him a hero to his grandchildren, winning any prize they wished. Casino trips were a source of excitement for him, and he enjoyed participating in group activities, from music and puzzles to bingo and card games during his time at the nursing home. Tom had a sweet tooth for pop, candy, and bananas, but his greatest love was his family, who brought him endless happiness.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 30 years, Kathleen; daughter, Mary (Matthew) Determan of Mason City; grandchildren, Ellie and Henry; special niece, Pamela “Pam” Cisco; 6 sisters, 4 half sisters, 3 half brothers, 2 step sisters, 3 step brothers; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Preceding him in death are his parents; Kathleen’s son, Gilmore “Justin” Helgeland; a sister, Sharon; and a half brother, Delbert.
