Women’s College Basketball: Iowa State’s Joens and Soares invited to WNBA Draft

AMES – Iowa State women’s basketball players Ashley Joens and Stephanie Soares have both received invites to attend the WNBA Draft on Monday, April 10 at Spring Studios New York in Manhattan, New York. The draft will start at 6 p.m. (CT) and be televised on ESPN.

Joens and Soares are among the 15 players invited to the WNBA Draft this year.

Joens, a two-time All-American and three-time recipient of the Cheryl Miller Award, recently wrapped up one of the greatest college careers in Division I women’s basketball. The Iowa City, Iowa, native, finished her career ninth all-time in Division I history with 3,060 points. Joens averaged 21.6 points and 9.7 rebounds as a senior.

Soares, a native of Sao Paulo, Brazil, started all 13 games in her only season with Iowa State before suffering a knee injury against Oklahoma on January 8. At the time of her injury, Soares was averaging 14.4 points and 9.9 rebounds, while shooting 54.4 percent from the field. She also averaged 3.0 blocks per game.
