Marie Y. Whipple, 90, of Rock Falls, passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2023, at the IOOF Home.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 6, 2023, at Old Stone United Methodist Church, 1 Jackson St. with Pastor Sue Simmons officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, January 5, 2023, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111, N Pennsylvania Ave. Inurnment will be held in the Rock Falls Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family of Marie Whipple.

Marie Yvonne Whipple was born in Mason City on February 10, 1932, to parents Carl and Matilda (Buege) Freeden. Marie grew up in Mason City and graduated from Mason City High School. On September 9, 1951, she was united in marriage to Lon Whipple at St. James Lutheran Church. Together the couple farmed in the Rock Falls area and eventually moved to Rock Falls. Once in Rock Falls Marie became the local Postmaster. She always knew what was happening in town and always put others before herself. Marie loved baking for church and community events and was always up for a game of 500. Most importantly Marie loved her family and enjoyed having her grandchildren visit her.

Marie is survived by her children, Carlene Gonnerman, Robert (Roxanne) Whipple, Lee (Kelly) Whipple; grandchildren, Kristin (Max) Chesnik, Teresa (Eric) Neal, Eric (special friend Jessica) Whipple, Erin (Jason) Froning, Eon (Alisha) Whipple, David Whipple, Katherine (Jon) Wolf, Patrick Whipple; 13 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lon; parents, Carl and Matilda Freeden; brother, Robert Freeden; sister-in-law, Marlene Freeden and nephew Michael Freeden.
