In loving memory of Jerald “Jerry” Keith Philipp, (2/27/1937-1/26/2026) beloved father, husband and friend.

A funeral service for Jerry Philipp will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 2, 2026, at the Gospel Lighthouse Church in Floyd, Iowa with Pastor Paul Phillips officiating.

Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, February 1, 2026, at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home in Charles City, Iowa and continue one hour before the service at the church on Monday.

Born on February 27, 1937, in rural Floyd, Iowa to Edward and Sidonia (Schmidt) Philipp. He was baptized and confirmed at Eden Presbyterian Church, in Rudd. Jerry graduated from Floyd Consolidated School in 1955. He completed his Bachelor of Arts in Education and Social Studies with honors from the University of Dubuque in 1959. Jerry received his Master’s in Guidance Counseling from the University of Northern Iowa in 1964.

Jerry had a few different careers throughout his life. He taught for Denver and Rudd Schools. Jerry went to South Carolina for a year to manage an ice cream parlor. He returned to Iowa and to education as the guidance counselor for Camanche Schools and that is where he met Louise. After their wedding, Jerry tried law school at DePaul and then he was a counselor for a suburban Chicago school. Louise and Jerry returned to farm the Adam Schmidt family farm called “Elmendorf” from 1972 to 1980. He worked as a dairy hire hand in for a year. He worked as an adjunct professor for Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He worked as a counselor for the West Virginia Juvenile Penitentiary System and as the guidance counselor for a Christian school in Ft. Myers, Florida. His last career was with Iowa State Extension. In semi-retirement he worked for Sherman’s Nursery in Charles City. In retirement he helped home-school his grandchildren.

Jerry loved Jesus! He passionately spoke of faith, theology, history and politics every day of his life. He taught Bible and History to his daughter in Florida and all his grandchildren. He was always reading, studying and teaching. Lately he has been writing both a newsletter and his memoirs.

Jerry went to be with Jesus on January 26, 2026, while at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Sidonia Philipp, and his brother Bruce Philipp. Jerry is survived by his wife, Louise Philipp, son Clinton Philipp and daughter, Lorene (Thomas) Meier, Jerry was blessed with six grandchildren: Josiah, Bethany, Susanna, Benaiah (Ben-ay-ah), Rhema (Ray-ma) and Zebulun Meier.
