Iowa cop pursues and shoots fleeing, armed suspect

CLIVE, IOWA – An Iowa cop chased a fleeing suspect early Saturday morning in the Des Moines metro area and the officer shot the man once he produced a gun.

On December 7, Clive, Iowa officers were participating, along with several other metro police departments, in a Central Iowa Traffic Safety Task Force special traffic enforcement project in and around the City of West Des Moines. At 2:34 AM, a Clive officer attempted to stop a grey Dodge Charger for a traffic violation in the area of 63rd Street and I-235. That vehicle failed to stop for the officer and fled eastbound on I-235 at a high rate of speed. The Clive officer pursued the fleeing car.

The suspect vehicle attempted to make the exit at 42nd Street. The driver lost control and crashed on the off ramp. Two male suspects split up and fled from the car on foot into a residential area in the 600 block of 42nd Street in Des Moines. The Clive officer pursed one of the suspects between the houses. During the chase, the suspect pulled out a pistol. The officer fired his weapon, striking the suspect.

The officer immediately called for emergency medical attention for the suspect. A handgun was recovered at the scene. Medical personnel arrived quickly, treated the suspect, and transported him to a local hospital. His condition is not known at this time.
Officers converged on the area and were able to find the second male suspect and take him into custody within a short period of time.

The Des Moines Police Department is investigating the incident. The names of the suspect and the involved officer is not being released at this time. The officer has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the conclusion of the investigation per Clive Police Department policy.

Albert Einstein pulled out a gun while a pissed-off cop was chasing him. He is very lucky he isn’t having his fried chicken and skittles in Hell.
