MASON CITY – A Mason City man was arrested for drunk driving this weekend.

Mason City police conducted a traffic stop just after midnight on Saturday, November 25 near Virginia Avenue and 2nd Street SE. After an investigation, officers arrested the driver, 49-year-old James Richard Shipley of Mason City on a charge of operating while intoxicated. He was briefly jailed and released.

There’s a reasonable chance that Mr. Shipley won’t be found guilty of this offense, as he has been charged with a number of serious crimes in the past and the charges have been dismissed. Examples are domestic abuse (2012 – Franklin county), obstruction of emergency communications (2012 – Franklin county), interference with official acts (2012 – Franklin county), felony burglary (2012 – Franklin county), and drunk driving with no insurance (2012 – Cerro Gordo county).

  1. Isn’t he married to the Mason City City Assessor, Dana Naumann? Pretty sure they just got married a month or so ago.
