MINNEAPOLIS – Target Corporation announced plans to raise its minimum hourly wage for all team members to $11 in October, along with a commitment to increasing the minimum hourly wage to $15 by the end of 2020. This significant investment in its team will allow Target to continue to recruit and retain strong team members and provide an elevated experience for its guests and in the communities it serves.
“Target has a long history of investing in our team members. We care about and value the more than 323,000 individuals who come together every day with an absolute commitment to serving our guest,” said Brian Cornell, CEO and chairman of Target. “Target has always offered market competitive wages to our team members. With this latest commitment, we’ll be providing even more meaningful pay, as well as the tools, training and support our team needs to build their skills, develop professionally and offer the service and expertise that set Target apart.”
By moving to an $11 minimum hourly wage this fall, Target will provide pay increases to thousands of team members across the country before the holiday season. This increase will also apply to the more than 100,000 hourly team members that Target is hiring for the holiday season. The commitment to move to a minimum hourly wage of $15 will be implemented between now and the end of 2020.
Investing in its Team
On average, Target employs 160 team members per store and offers career planning and development opportunities, with one in four of our store leaders having come from hourly positions within a Target store. Also, more than 60 percent of Target team members live within five miles of the store where they work. Target has been recognized for its efforts to invest in its team, including ranking on Fortune’s list of the World’s Most Admired Companies and DiversityInc’s list of Top Companies for Diversity and being named one of the Top 50 Companies for Executive Women.
Target currently pays market competitive rates above the federal minimum wage at all stores nationwide. Target’s last major wage increase was in 2016, when the company moved to a $10 minimum hourly wage. A minimum hourly wage of $11 is higher than the minimum wage in 48 states, and matches the minimum wage in Massachusetts and Washington.
Additionally, Target offers a variety of schedules to meet the needs of its diverse population and works with its teams to build schedules around their availability. With input from its team members, Target posts store schedules in advance, allows store team members to trade and pick up shifts at their store location, and doesn’t do on-call or snap scheduling at its stores.
Target offers a number of benefits for its team members, including a 10 percent merchandise discount at Target and Target.com and an additional 20 percent health and wellness discount on fresh fruits and vegetables, all Simply Balanced products and C9 merchandise. Comprehensive health and wellness programs are available for eligible team members, including healthcare benefits, paid parental leave, paid short-term disability and free access to life resources such as nurse, mental health support, financial counseling and legal services. The company also offers financial resources for its team members, including Target Credit Union, a dollar-for-dollar 401(k) match for eligible team members, tuition reimbursement for GED, Undergraduate, Graduate and Masters Degrees and tuition discounts at many accredited schools.

Jack-isn’t is strange that your comments, watchdog’s comments and my comments have all disappeared. I did not delete them, and I know watchdog didn’t delete them so that just leaves you and the troll. Are you one and the same? I would say he was unable to handle the truth and was embarassed by his failure’s (and there were obviously lots of them.
Sorry LVS it’s not me! I believe in free speech and do not delete comments. You can say and post anything you want on here and I guarantee you I will not delete it. Whether I agree with your statements or not you have the right to put down anything you want and I will not delete it. You see I will not delete comments even if you personally attacked me. Like I said I believe in free speech. I told you yesterday I do not know you personally. Only what I see here on NIT. I am not ashamed of anything in my life.
The big difference here is you have admitted several times that you do delete comments. I am telling you now, I will not delete comments even if they are personal attacks. So you go right ahead and accuse, you go right ahead and attack, your comments are safe with me. The rest of us here on NIT just wish we could say the same about you.
LVS-Why is it every time I responde to one of your comments you delete my response? I just don’t get you at all. Why do you do it? My response was genuine and did not attack you at all but you still feel the need to delete it. Are you just trying to chase away readers of NIT? I think you may need help.
Jack, LVS is the epitome of a lying and stupid old fool.
While most people garner knowledge & wisdom with age, LVS has done neither. He lies constantly and deletes any comments that do not fit his narrow-minded views.
Everyone on this site knows him for what he is, a cowardly, lying, ignorant and bigoted idiot
He gets away with deleting comments because he is the site owners lackey & lapdog.
WOW this LVS is a legend….in his mind.
I see the comment about “those who have furthered their education” won’t get the pay raise they need to pay for increased prices due to the wage increase.
Yes they will, as the competition for jobs increases so will the pay of everyone with the skills to do the job.
I have long thought and been told that the price of getting an education does not guarantee a good paying job. In the old days ON THE JOB TRAINING was more valuable than a higher education when moving up the ladder for better pay. I really think that holds true today while more and more employers are moving back to the ON THE JOB TRAINING concept to staff their needs.
Your work ethic will take you a lot farther than education.
That may depend on who you work for. How many people have you heard of getting a pay raise anywhere near the jump in pay unskilled workers are getting. You take away the incentive for people to better themselves to get a higher paying job. There is a reason these jobs used to be called entry level jobs. That type of wage is good but unless you have a spouse who is helping out, it will barely get you by.
First of all I don’t see Target workers as unskilled. I am betting all have their diploma and many with some college too. Also, I have never bought into the notion you NEED a collage degree to be paid a good salary with benefits.
We just finished our negotiations and received a $1.00/hr raise a year for 5 years. We are pretty happy. Our apprenticeship program through our employer provides a great “on the job training” program. I know of some other factory workers that are getting raises too.
So you know I work for a nationwide company with 7000 employees.
It’s about job skills and competition for labor. It’s all good and our future is looking much better than it has is 25 years. I hope that tax cut gets approved and we will see another huge boost.
By unskilled I’m meaning walk in off the street and get hired. No special certification or licensure needed. I don’t mean to imply the have no skills. You indicate with your negotiations you are to get 1.00 an hour for the next 5 years. Ask local health care workers how much their pay raises amount to. I guarantee it won’t be near 1.00
I under stand what you are saying, but, what skills do you think target employees have. Other then management, do you consider working the cash register or stocking shelves a skill. Now I’m not putting anybody down for working, no matter what the job, I’m happy for them that they have a job and go to work daily. You bet that all have diplomas and some college, but that doesn’t make them skilled, unless they are working in the occupation that they schooled for, and your right, education doesn’t guarantee, or entitle you a high paying job. I’ll take OJT over education any day. A good work ethic will take you places.
I went to College and became a teacher. I looked around and figured out that there were a lot of jobs that paid better and had much better room for advancement if I applied myself. Teaching seemed a dead end job to me so I moved on.
I quit teaching and went to work as a construction laborer and worked my way up to being a Construction Superintendent. I had to re-learn all the stuff that college could not provide I quickly learned college was not all that important when it comes to intelligence too. I ended up making over 100K a year plus benefits all due to On The Job Training and a good work ethic.
I see Target as a training facility leaning skills you can build on. I see stocking, inventory, working the cash registers as a skilled job. Not to mention people skills, that you can’t learn in college. Those jobs are stepping stones to find yourself and what it is you are cut out for to move up and out to greener pastures. I am sure Target offers advancement for those that enjoy the retail business and managing others.
College is good but it is not for most people. To many people go to college, rack up a big debt, and never use it.
Watchdog-No more respect for you, you have lost it
Watchdog, on behalf of all the children in America, thank you for leaving the teaching profession.
Watchdog you are exactly right. Entry level jobs are just that. Stepping stones to the future. College is overrated and many young people have enormous amounts of student loans that they can’t repay because the jobs they get don’t support it. People can advance themselves in entry level jobs if they have good work ethics. If the pay scale is equal or close to someone who has invested time and money there is a lack of people willing to go into professions that are needed. Ie. teaching and health care.
Hey Dog-Great resume’. It just shows what can be done if you work hard and have the intelligence to succeed. My resume is somewhat similar, but I went into Mfg and Mfg Engineering. I agree that not everyone should go to college. what good is a college education going to do when the lights go out and you need a electrician, or your car breaks down and you need a mechanic. Trade jobs are every bit as important as college jobs. I have often said one of the most important people (and overlooked) in any operation is the janitor.

Your Resume Larry is all about kissing ass, sucking up and finding ways to make yourself look good at the expense of others. So glad you left Charles City.
Jack, it don’t sound like you respect anyone.
And Anon, I am still teaching part time. I have taught many classes over the years after I left full time employment. I hate to burst your bubble but the kids and adults I teach love me. They keep asking me back so I must be doing something right.
Watchdog, I respect everyone on this site except LVS, because he deletes comments that do not agree with his point of view, and now you because you defend LVS. Anyone that is not for free speech does not get my respect.
(cough)…bullshit.
You have lied on here so many times Watchdog, you even believe your own BS.
Watchdog, I delete his comments because all he knows how to do is attack someone anonymously. He doesn’t have guts enough to do it using his own name. I have a pretty good idea who he was and I believe he was fired by me for cheating on his time cards, stealing from the company. I left Charles City when the plant shut down but not until I had been promoted several times because of expertise and hard work. If he continues to make personal attacks I will continue to delete him.
LVS you delete comments because you are a coward..
But that is nothing new with you. The only hard work you did in Charles City was down on your knees kissing ass. That and stabbing people in the back. You were a slimy little weasel then and now just a sad pathetic slimy old geezer.
You’ve always been a POS.
LVS- I have never attacked you personally. I have disagreed with your views and you have deleted all of my post that ask you tough or even simple questions. I made a post last night responding to Watchdogs comment and you deleted watchdog’s & My comment.
I ask you if you are against free speech, you have deleted all of those comments. You say you only delete comments that attack you. I have not attacked you and you have deleted all of my comments and I predict you will delete this comment as well.
A true American would promote free speech.
By the way, I do not know you or what your real name even is so I am not the guy you fired.
I did not delete your post last night. Some of mine were gone as well and I had to reload them. If you are not the guy I was thinking of you must have been a tier two or three management or another union employee. Anyone of which has nothing but jealousy for someone who succeeded when they didn’t. When I left White I went on to be a Mfg. Engineer, then was a CNC Supervisor, then superintendent followed by plant manager. From there I was World Mfg Manager, then V.P. Operations. Followed by MFG Eng. Manager, then Plant Mgr. again followed by V.P.Operations again. Then I was Senior V.P. Operations, followed by General Manager. How about you?
If your post were deleted it was because your comments were in the train and were deleted by accident. I only delete the comments from the Anonymous TROLL who attacks me using different names. I will continue to do that. This site used to have rules but they have fallen by the wayside. Therefore I will do it myself when attacked. I don’t mind a difference of opinion, but personal attacks are different.
This is cute. Lap Dog decides to post his resume here……. and not to be outdone, LVS feels compelled to burst into song and declare his contribution to humanity. How very self serving and insecure of you LVS!
LVS- what are you talking about? Like I said before I do not know who you are, do not know your name, only know you from your posts on NIT. You are anonymous just like everyone else on this page.
I was never a two tier or a three-tier management, was never with the union and no I am not jealous of any success that you had in life. I’m happy for you. You asked what about me? Well I will tell you that I’ve been at my current position for the last 27 years and yes it is management but I am not here to discuss my life.
I like to read the articles and have some debate on the issues. The problem is every time I try to debate My comments get deleted.
Like I said, and you know it to be true, I have never personally attacked you yet you still delete my comments. Why do you find it necessary to delete my comments? Can you answer that simple question?
LVS-I see you did answer my question saying my comments were deleted as part of a thread.
What does that even mean??
If the market can sustain that great! Only problem is, those who have furthered their education aren’t getting that type of pay increase. The price of goods will go up even more so the consumer will also pay more.
Attracting good employees is the reason Target NEEDED to raise their wages.
Prior to President Trump getting elected the American economy was trudging along at a little over 1% growth. The American economy is now over 3% growth. That is a significant boost to job growth and competition for workers. The result is American workers are going to see pay raises and an increase in their standard of living.
I give our President credit for Target’s decision to raise wage. He is Making America Great Again, one step at a time.
Good for you Target, even more reason to shop at your stores.
So, they are finally going to admit they have been underpaying their employees for years while the CEO makes millions. Now they will pass this on to the customers by increasing prices so there will be no gain. Smoke and mirrors by management.
LVS- Do you ever have a positive thing to say?
It is a shame that you are so ignorant you just can’t understand the truth. How’s that for positive troll.
And that about sums it up.
Now the Dumb Ass Troll will deny it and post more comments using a different name.
There you have it folks!
LVS would rather delete comments then answer simple questions. Does not surprise me in the least though as that seems to be what he is best at.
Larry….you don’t need to call names in order to prove you point. Try to be more of an adult when you post and you will gain more respect here. Thank you.
Great advice Aunt Bea! Unfortunately the person you call Larry will just delete these comments and not take any advice.
Isn’t it a shame that the Anonymous Dumb Ass troll posts comments and then answers himself using different names. Of course no one else will ever answer a Dumb Ass like that.
I know. How would you like to have to Live with him. His negative out look and crappy personality would be hell to be around everyday.
NOBODY CARES, but you. If you really want to, you can get some help with your obsession with him.
I understand your frustration, but help me out here. How is it that he has the ability to delete so many comments. I would think that only the site owner has that ability. Now don’t say it is because of pucker power, because that can’t be the reason either.
That is a good question, one that I have asked but have never been told the answer because my comment asking the question always gets deleted.
My other question was why does LVS not believe in free speech. Never got an answer to that either, just got deleted.
that’s nice but you cant buy a house and a car and raise a family on $11.00 a hr. more retail for mason city, ya ya boom
And who’s fault is that, you should have went to college. You people with no skills or job experience, always want to start at the top of the pay scale, never going to happen.
Most people with a college education don’t start at the top either. As a matter of fact most don’t even get a job in the field they studied but still end up with massive debt.
*”Gone” to college
