Two Iowa teens arrested in connection with shooting murder of man

DUBUQUE - After an Iowa man was brutally shot dead during an alleged robbery, a Chicago man and three Iowa teens are behind bars accused of his murder.

DUBUQUE – After an Iowa man was brutally shot dead during an alleged robbery, a Chicago man and two Iowa teens are behind bars accused of his murder.

Dubuque Police Investigators filed a charge in connection to the February 7, 2023 shooting death of 31-year-old Lonnie E. Burns of Dubuque. Based on information and evidence gathered in the weeks following the murder, police received approval from the Dubuque County Attorney’s Office to charge 25-year-old Aaron C. Johnson, of Chicago, IL, with first-degree murder for the death of Burns.

Three additional persons have been arrested in connection with this case. 30-year-old Jermaine D. Bolds of Dubuque; 16-year-old Tiarha D. Godwin of Maquoketa, Iowa; and 18-year-old Laniga G. Hannon of Dubuque were all arrested this week. All three have been charged with 1st-degree murder and 1st-degree robbery. A total of four persons have now been charged in relation to this incident.

This investigation is still ongoing, and additional charges are possible. Dubuque Police were assisted by the Maquoketa Police Department.

Murder in the first degree is a class “A” felony punishable by life in prison. Robbery in the first degree is a class “B” felony punishable by no more than 50 years in prison.
