Mason City man crashes car which then bursts into flames

RURAL CERRO GORDO COUNTY – A suspected driver under the influence crashed his car outside Mason City which then burst into flames before he was arrested.

At 11:19 PM on December 30, 2016, Cerro Gordo County Deputies responded to a report of a fire in the 23000 block of 260th Street. Upon arrival, a Silver 2001 Mercury Sable was discovered on fire, fully engulfed. The vehicle entered the south ditch and collided with a utility pole, completely severing the pole. Deputies discovered no one in the vehicle.

The driver had fled the scene but was found and identified as the registered owner of the vehicle, Spencer James Boyd, age 24 of Mason City. Boyd was placed under arrest and booked into the Cerro Gordo County jail for failure to maintain control, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, striking fixtures upon a highway, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Boyd remains under investigation for operating while under the influence; drug related. The Iowa State Patrol and Nora Spings Fire department assisted on scene.

  1. It’s time to grow up! You have had chances way to many. You want ur newborn baby around drugs? Good way to lose your chance at being a dad !! Mom could use this against you in event things don’t work.
