Des Moines police investigate 6th homicide so far this year

DES MOINES – Police in Des Moines are investigating the 6th homicide in 2015, the latest a stabbing incident that left several other person injured.

At 4:57 am the Des Moines Police Communications Center received a 911 call from a cell phone near E 16th St and Dean Ave. The caller indicated a victim had been stabbed nearby.

Des Moines Police patrol officers and DMFD Medics responded and found a 27 year old and a 23 year victim suffering from stab wounds. They were both transported to Mercy hospital where the 27 year old later died from his injuries. A third victim presented himself at Broadlawns Hospital at 12:49 pm. Both of the remaining victims are expected to live.

The investigation indicates a fight broke out during a party at 269 E. 16th Street. The fight spilled out into the street where the stabbings occurred.

Des Moines Police Detectives have currently interviewed approximately 13 separate witnesses and expect to identify and interview more as the investigation continues.

The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of family.
