logo_iowa_hawkeyesIOWA CITY – University of Iowa two-time NCAA champion Chris Campbell will serve as honorary captain Saturday when the Hawkeyes host Penn State on Mediacom Mat inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

Campbell, a native of Westfield, N.J., won the 177-pound NCAA championship in 1976 and 1977. He won 122 matches at Iowa from 1974-77, and his career winning percentage of .943 (122-6-3) ranks seventh all-time in program history. He won the Big Ten title three times, first in 1974, and again in 1976 and 1977.

Campbell made the U.S. Olympic teams in 1980 and 1992. He was the top-rated wrestler in the world in 1980, but was denied a chance at a Gold medal when the United States boycotted the Moscow Olympics.

Campbell won gold the following year at the 1981 World Championships, and eventually earned an Olympic medal at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, placing third at 198 pounds.

Campbell will be recognized prior to the start of the dual meet. Start time is 8:04 p.m. (CT). Doors open at 7 p.m. Fans are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance and use the “print at home” option for easiest entry into the arena.
