MASON CITY – The North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) Alpha Psi Beta chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) will be hosting the PTK Iowa Regional Leadership Conference on October 24-25.
PTK is an international honor society that recognizes academic accomplishments of students attending two-year colleges.
“On Thursday, October 24, we will make history with the convening of the first-ever Community College Completion Leadership Conference being held in the Region,” said Doreen Lechner, PTK co-advisor at NIACC.
The Leadership Conference will focus on why college completion matters to our communities, colleges and to the nation. The goal is to create ideas, strategies and action plans to develop a culture of completion in our colleges that will lead to increasing student success and the number of Americans completing a degree or credential.
PTK International Director Rod Risley will be the conference keynote speaker.
“This is a big deal for our Iowa Region and for NIACC,” Lechner said. “College Completion involves more than just students and faculty committing to completing their degrees. It takes a community to support students in achieving their goals. It’s important for all stakeholders to realize that completing a degree before transferring to another college or university will save students time and money.”
Iowa community college presidents and trustees have been invited to Thursday evening’s C4 (Community College Commit to Complete) presentation. Rod Risley will speak in NIACC’s auditorium from 5:15 pm to 6:15 pm. The community will also be asked to sign the C4 banner with students, staff, trustees and administration.
Admission is free.
