MASON CITY – A man who has been charged numerous times previously with assault was picked up in Mason City by police late Thursday.
Mason City police said they picked up Kenneth Shaun Neilsen, 31, around 9:20 PM Thursday evening at the 000 block of 2nd Street NE with no complications.
Neilsen was charged with domestic abuse involving strangulation, a class D felony, after a July 19th incident in Mason City. This is his third or subsequent charge of domestic assault.
Neilsen has also assaulted other citizens, as he did in 2011 and plead guilty. Neilsen had been in Beje Clark’s residential treatment program from November 2011 until January 21st, 2012 when Mason City Police responded to a report of Nielson assaulting a local citizen. As a result Nielson was charged with a serious misdemeanor count of assault causing bodily injury. Court records show through a voluntary negotiated guilty plea the original charge was amended to simple misdemeanor assault.
Neilsen plead not guilty on August 2nd to this latest assault charge and now faces a trial on September 24th.
