AMES – The Northern Iowa Panthers football team held off the Iowa State Cyclones Saturday night in Ames, 28-20. It was the season opener for both teams.
UNI out-rushed the Cyclones 228 yards to 168 despite more attempts from Iowa State (44 attempts to 34).
Iowa State lead 21-14 at the half.
