by Matt Marquardt –

I was disgusted today as I entered the Wal-Mart parking lot.

I was greeted by debris, trash and overflowing garbage cans. Even as our City Council professes interest in cleaning up and beautifying the entrances into our city, this spectacle is allowed to smudge our city’s reputation.

There are plenty of out of town license plates in that parking lot. I wonder what they think of Mason City? If Wal-Mart is allowed to behave this way, what else might be taking place, how clean is the rest of the city? Not a good way to sell Mason City to the outside world.

By the way, Wal-Mart’s Manager, Stewart Anderson, is a Chamber of Commerce Board member. Perhaps he can find time between meetings there to direct his staff to pick up trash bags and head to the parking lot.

Let’s start holding these people accountable, Mason City.

  1. To John Colombo
I suppose I wouldn’t return to a store my wife got caught stealing from either. FACT

  2. is this bozo the clown!driving around town checking out trash cans!hmm is this joker on our city counsel? mabey you should get a life!wm has done more for this community than you could ever dream of!

  3. I hope there’s never a fire, with all the cars parked in the Fire Lane, the trucks would have to park at Radio Shack to put the fire out.

  4. Same thing can be said about menards. Look at lots around their buildings. And Matt had it right about out of town lic. Plates and he left out a lot of these folks throw their crap out in mason so when they get back home alls nice!!!!

  5. Hey Matt-power of the media. I was at WalMart today and am pleased to tell you I saw no signs of garbage. All of the trash barrels were empty and all of the carts were put away and there was a guy working very hard to keep it that way. He has a tough job as there were non out of place when we went in but six scattered around when we left, but he was working on them.

    1. guess Matts article got them managers out of there back offices to direct those associates to doing there job LOL

  6. Hey people, this story isn’t about “trash in the WM parking lot”. This is about Matt smearing a CHAMBER MEMBER. And he’ll be the 1st to tell you that’s “his right” to do…..

I drove all over the lot yesteday while taking back pop cans. Didn’t see any trash all over but did see a worker pusher a loooooooong load of carts.
As one poster said blaim the trash on the 2 legged pigs.
And here’s an idea….Be a good citizen and help clean it up instead of sitting on your arrogant azz pecking out smack on the computer. Make yourself useful.

  7. Bookmeyer has a job, it’s called husband to a doctor. This mayor thing is just a hobby to keep him busy. Good move Eric, I spent my youth chasing the sexy broads that I has to support. Lesson learned.

    1. That’s why the F troops here don’t like him. They’re envious of his success. They know they’re old fat lumps of clay going nowhere. Except to the fridge for another beer.

  8. Another huge problem out there is when sick an stupid and her boy friend happy pinko guy throw their thrash out there the wind blows it all over the area. Makes the whole area look trashy but they don’t care as they are trashy anyway.

    1. You are so darn funny LVS. You must lay awake all night thinking these up. Keep them coming but please wait till later today. I’ll be gone till then.

    2. @LVS you are the biggest waste of breath on the planet. Every group of people that you call names and try to intimidate are better than you and it just bothers the hell out of you. You were a lying cheating siding salesman piece of crap and you have the gall to think you are better than anyone else. You worship the ground Katie walks on and defend her every chance you get. Notice how she has never once defended you! I have even challenged her to speak up for you and she was silent because she may be very opinionated but unlike you she is a decent human being. So crawl back in your hole and quit wasting the air decent people breath.

      1. @Anonymous-just another punk hiding behind the Anonymous name and hurling insults. Who the hell ever told you I was a salesman? Are you happy pinko guys squeeze? Is that why you feel you must defend him with your un-asked for personal attack on me, or are you a member of the North Iowa Liberal Idiot Club. Either way happy guy doesn’t need your help, he is perfectly capable of defending himself. I would be hurt if I gave a crap about you damn opinion but I don’t Now go pee up a rope sissy.

        1. Only an idiot like you would think that posting under the LVS name is not anonymous. As usual you ignore the truth in my statement about Katie and any other decent person knowing what a waste of air you are. Instead of facing your short comings you just start the name calling diatribe. I’am not sticking up for Happy Guy or anyone else other than respectable human beings. Please show your posting history to your wife and children I’m sure they would be so proud! Who knows maybe the apple didn’t fall far from the tree and they to are a waste of the air we breathe. From now on I will post under this moniker so you have one less useless argument to deflect the well deserved criticism of your many idiotic statements.

          1. FROM NIT STAFF: Folks, please try and go back to being civil. We won’t pull this particular comment, but the sniping and attacks have to slow down or comments will be pulled. Thank you.

        2. @anonymous-or P.O.S. or what ever name you cowards want to go by today. Once again, I would really be hurt by your idiot post if I cared one bit about your opinion, but I don’t.

        3. I agree that LVS needs to be “reigned in”. For some reason NIT seems to tolerate his outrageous name calling and false accusations like they’ve become accustomed to it. LVS is clearly out of control and needs to be reigned in.

          1. FROM NIT STAFF: When you, or any person reading NIT, sees a comment that seems out of line, please alert us immediately so we can make a decision on that comment and that subscriber. Thank you.

        4. @Anonymous or whatever name you are going by today-I am going to put this in the simplest terms I can to make sure you understand it. I have nothing to do with Katie and don’t know where you got the idea I did. I don’t know her and she doesn’t know me. If I ever “defended” her it was because I agreed with something she posted and that is not defending. She is a bright lady whose post I most often but not always agree with. I have certainly never asked her or intend to ask her to defend me in any way or form. I am a big boy now who can defend myself as you will probably find out when I find you. You were not even part of the conversation when you decided to come out of whatever hole you live in and attack me. At least Happy Guy who I do not always get along with uses the same name and I can respect his opinion. You, I have no respect for whatsoever. If N.I.T. wants to let you get by with an attack where you call me a P.O.S. then we will have something else to decide.

        5. LVS your quote about me “I can respect his opinion”. Since when? You have done nothing but call me names and try to belittle me (unsuccessfully) for the past week. When do you start with the respect. Everything you are bashing Anonymous for is exactly what you do. You have proven over and over again that what you do best is name call and post untruths.

        6. @happy guy-nothing more than you had coming as in my opinion you started the bad mouthing. Just giving you back what you started. As far as respect, it is obvious that you really believe what you say. I can respect that. Don’t necessarily agree with it but can respect it. Maybe you have not noticed but I have not made any comments about you in the last day or so. That is because you didn’t attack me. Keep it that way and we won’t have a problem. I still think you are wrong on gun control though although, I now think it is a difference in how we interpret the constitution.

        7. @P.O.S-you are entitled to your opinion and I understand why someone with your limited intelligence would try to put other people down. I will continue to post and express my opinion without name calling but if it makes you feel better get right after it. Real men have no need to do such stuff. However, you and your type make me irritable and I will really look forward to meeting you.

    1. @ADanza-that is why the carts are spread all over the lot. Also, they let the carts stay in the lot all the time and people have no other place to put them. Then they get used to dumping them anywhere and because it is easier they just continue doing it.

      1. spoken like someone who has been doing just that for a long time. here’s a though…if you don’t like it stop going there.

        1. @happy pinko guy-That was you I saw throwing trash out there. I thought it was. I really do not have time today to play with tow card carrying, charter members of the Liberal Idiots Club. Go play in your sandbox you sissy.

I’ve found the opposite to be true. Maybe it’s the difference in times I shop at WalMart. I’ve seen the carts “spread all over the lot” but the corals were empty, left by the “two-legged pigs” that frequent our planet.

Aside from that I was trying to think of a store in MC that also had trashcans in its parking lot. K-Mart, Sears, Menard’s, Kohl’s, Hy-Vee, Aldi’s, Fleet Farm, all don’t have them. Taget? not sure.

And next time I get a chance to talk to Jay, I’ll ask how often he sweeps the WalMart lot. It’s at least weekly.

        1. @Joao Do Carmo-I have seen the same things. I think you are correct, it is the time you are there that makes a difference. But, if the cart pens are broken it could be part of the reason they are not being used. Sometimes when you go there all of the handicap parking places are so full of carts you can not park there.

  9. The Store Manager Stewart Andersen and Kyla Luckie District Manager both living in Clear Lake can go home without looking at the mess. Actions are better than words. Be careful Matt you talking S….. about people? Appeared to me you stated and showed the facts and appeared to have no lies in it. should be able to do an IP search on that address so they can be on NIM.

      1. Mason City pays more than Walmart, we pay $140,000. What a rip-off. Who died and made government jobs pay so much?

  10. How do you know that just one person didn’t just unload the trash from his car and it was more than the can could hold. Now here comes a camera. WalMart can’t help what others do out on their lot. People are just a bunch of pin heads a lot of the time. No responsibility for their actions. Maybe what Mason City needs is to drive WM out of here too. Will we be happy then?

    1. Let me explain something to you. This trash bin is highly visible, near Buffalo Wild Wings. I spotted trash all over the parking lot, and not just a little; this is what appalled me. It looked like the North Iowa Landfill. In my opinion, it is a disgrace. Now as long as we are making suggestions on how to clean it up, maybe Wal-Mart Manager Stewart Anderson can call up his pals at the Mason City Chamber and they can pull strings at City Hall to send city workers out to clean it up. Just thinking out of the box here. Or, Eric Bookmeyer can finally have a job and go out there with a stick and poke all the trash and put it in garbage bags.

      1. Exactly. And they should look at the corn field to the east of the store. Full of Wal-Mart trash.

  11. Well at least they put the trash in or beside the cans and not strewn along the highway.
You know…..the one thing I never do when I go to a MC or a strange town is check out Wally World trash cans. But that could be because I have better more important interesting things to do.

    1. Let me say this to you, my ‘friend.’ This is not the first time I have been threatened, and it probably won’t be the last. NIT will continue to hit and hit hard, maybe harder than ever, moving forward. Buckle up for that ride if you can handle it, and if you can’t, I’m not hard to find.

  12. I do recall watching a documentary about Walmart that indicated that they do not employee anyone to clean parking lots at any of their stores. I don’t really know this to be fact since I refuse to enter the parking lot and you will not find me inside that store.

  13. Unfortunately there are more two legged pigs in mason city then there are garbage cans. If I saw that a garbage can was that full, I sure wouldn’t pile more on top of it, but the pigs don’t care. I’m sure that Wal Mart didn’t intend their garbage cans to be used for household garbage, which is against the law. If I was Wal Mart, I’d remove the cans, one less place for the pigs to throw their trash…

    1. The way I look at it is that ALL my trash COMES FROM Walmart since I grocery shop there as well. The least they can do is take back their packaging. Walmart should provide this service for customers who spend a certain amount there every month, say at least $200.

      1. There is a big box right inside the door where they take back all the bags you get from there. So they do take back the packaging.

        1. I get all my shrimp, fresh cod and tenderloin at Hy-Vee. I can eat a $20 bag of shrimp in two sittings Katie. Try the Hoffman house shrimp sauce, it’s the best.

        2. I know you like seafood. I found your grocery receipt in the parking lot the other day.

          alt=Brick 4 Brain’s Grocery Receipt

  14. People using trash cans. Imagine that….
I think a more worthwhile idea (since you feel the yen to rag on someone) is to take a cruise up Nettle N of 12th St. and take pictures of the trash inconsiderate bozos throw in the ditch.
At least Wally’s customers aim for the can.
p.s. Maybe it’s trash day and hasn’t been picked up yet.

    1. It’s always nice to pull into the parking lot and you see stalls where elderly people could be parking so they don’t have to walk as far, but instead it’s full of carts.
