DALLAS, Feb. 17 (UPI) — New York Jets quarterback Tim Tebow, noted for his sideline prayers during games, will speak to a controversial Texas pastor’s congregation, the church said.

Tebow is scheduled to address the First Baptist Church where pastor Robert Jeffress has used his pulpit to denounce gays, Muslims, Jews and other non-Christian religions, TV Guide reported. He once said President Barack Obama’s election would “lead to the rise of the Antichrist” and has said he believes 70 percent of gay people have AIDS and has referred to it as “the gay disease.”

The church’s website says Tebow is scheduled to address the Dallas congregation in April, TV Guide said Saturday.

Tebow was the subject of controversy after he agreed to appear in an anti-abortion commercial aired during the Super Bowl, though he has generally shied away from taking stances on controversial social issues like gay marriage, TV Guide said.
