Des Moines, IOWA — The Iowa State Patrol has lifted the prohibition on towing of abandoned or wrecked vehicles for the majority of Iowa’s interstate and highway systems.

If your vehicle is currently located in a ditch or along the shoulder of a state highway or Interstate, please contact a local, licensed tow company to make arrangements for the vehicle to be safely retrieved and transported.

If conditions on a particular roadway or in a specific region of the state deteriorate again and a prohibition against towing is once again implemented, that information will be posted on the State of Iowa’s Road Conditions Website at www.511ia.org

Please contact your local law enforcement to verify if towing is allowed on county roadways, or roads and streets within your community.
