On Monday, April 30, 2012 approximately 1:30 PM, a United States Postal Service worker was delivering mail in the 800 block of Fairview Avenue. A small Chihuahua dog ran at her and she sprayed the dog with pepper spray because she felt threatened by the dog. The dog ran away.
A short time later the Postal Worker was approached by Sabrina Mae Relaz, age 25, of 810 Fairview Avenue, Waterloo, who is the owner of the dog. Relaz asked the worker what she had done to her dog and the worker replied that she had used pepper spray on the dog. Relaz got mad with the worker and threw a syrup bottle at the worker, striking her in the chest.
Relaz was charged with Simple Assault. Animal Control was called to assist in the case.

I was in my garage with my rat terrier laying in the yard unleashed. I noticed he was gone and then heard a yelp and he came running back to the yard and started rubbing his nose. I then saw the mailman and realized he had sprayed my dog. Good for you mailman I was in the wrong for not having him on a leash and hopefully my dog learned not to mess with the mailman!
OH no, more dog abuse. I believe that the postal worker was within her rights to defend herself, as she felt threatened. Personally, I would have sprayed the dog owner too. Good people, don’t assult, other people. I’ve been bitten by dogs that never bite, it’s not fun. My opinion is given on the little information in the article. Some of it could change, if more information comes out. But for now, I stand my ground.
Sabrina is good person! Sounds like the postal service worker is being favored. The postal worker who’s name should had been revealed reprobably had a bad day not too mention attitude and took it out on the poor little Chihuahua!! If your going to reveal Sabrina’ s info then you should tell the whole true story!!!
I would have dumped the syrup all over her after throwing it at her. Mail carriers shouldn’t be mail carriers if they are threatened by pets. Everyone should get a PO Box & mail people can go get unemployment. That would solve it.
Lucky she didn’t just shoot the dog. A Police Officer would have.
