Iowa man charged with drunken driving in UTV crash that injured himself and 5 other people, including children

PRINCETON, IOWA - An Iowa man is charged with drunken driving in a UTV crash that injured himself and 5 other people, including children.

PRINCETON, IOWA – An Iowa man is charged with drunken driving in a UTV crash that injured himself and 5 other people, including children.

Police say that on Thursday, December 1, 2022, at approximately 6:22 PM, the Scott Emergency Communication Center received a call of a single vehicle accident in the area of the 26500 block of 257th Street in Princeton, Iowa. The Scott County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Team responded to the scene, and an investigation was conducted.

The initial investigation found that a camouflage 2022 CFMOTO 800cc UTV was traveling eastbound in a cornfield on the south side of 257th St. The UTV lost control, appears to have struck a fence, and rolled into a ditch. The UTV was being driven by a 54-year-old male from Princeton. It was also determined that the UTV had five passengers riding in it ranging from ages 11 to 19 years old. Two of the passengers had to be flown to Iowa City by Medforce, while the driver and three other passengers were transported by Medic EMS to Genesis Hospital for medical treatment. All occupants of the UTV are in stable condition at this time. The accident remains under investigation by the Scott County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Team.

The Scott County Sheriff’s Office, Scott Emergency Communication Center, Medic EMS, Medforce, LeClaire Police Department, Princeton Fire Department, and McCausland Fire Department, all assisted with the accident.

After investigation, the driver of the UTV was identified as Curt Bell, age 54 of Princeton, and he has been arrested and charged with the following:

– Operating while intoxicated, 1st offense
– Reckless driving
– 4 counts of Serious injury by motor vehicle
– Neglect of a child dependent
– Child endangerment causing bodily injury

This investigation was concluded by the Scott County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Team.
