Senator Ragan: Iowa’s Young people wanted for Youth Council

DES MOINES ñ Senator Amanda Ragan of Mason City announced that the State of Iowa Youth Advisory Council is currently taking applications for its 2011-2012 council. The council is made up of 21 members between the ages of 14 and 20, who will get leadership and civic engagement experience and opportunities to network. Council members engage in a variety of community service projects and receive training on such issues as underage drinking and dropout prevention.

“The Youth Advisory Council is a great way for our young people to develop their leadership skills, while advising the Legislature on important issues affecting Iowa’s youth today,” said Ragan. “I know we have many qualified high school students right here in our area, and I encourage all who are interested to apply for this incredible opportunity.”

Serving on the council is a two-year commitment in which members are expected to attend quarterly meetings. Reimbursement will be provided for mileage and meals. The deadline for applications is May 31. For more information and how to apply, visit www.icyd.iowa.gov/SIYAC |
