MASON CITY – The Iowa Harm Reduction Coalition will be hosting an Opioid Crisis Town Hall Meeting on Friday, March 23, 2018 from 1-3PM at Prairie Ridge Treatment Center in Mason City. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.
“This event is intended to facilitate discussion and create allies for the long term in battling the current and future opioid problem in our county, state, and country,” said Sam Smith, RN, Disease Prevention Specialist at the Cerro Gordo County Department of Public Health.
State lawmakers, local law enforcement, medical experts, and community leaders will discuss the current challenges and concerns surrounding injection drug use and the opioid epidemic in north central Iowa. Senator Amanda Ragan and Representative Sharon Steckman will join Mason City and Mitchell County law enforcement and University of Iowa emergency medicine doctors to present diverse perspectives on the problem and work together to discuss solutions.

The forgotten people in this discussion are the people who have real pain and need relief. They are being thrown under the bus because of some people who can’t control themselves. Probably weak minded liberals all. There are people who have cronic pain for one reason or another that are being denied relief. Let the abusers be punished but leave the needy people alone.

Good for you ! But I need a reality check ! Imagine being in a burn unit, burned from head to toe..you will need pain meds. Oxy-contin or Oxy- Codone etc are the most abused of the Opioid pills. If, like me, you were brutally raped , and ripped apart. After 130 stitches..not ashamed to have needed a prescription meds for 3 weeks. My husband had 4 back surgeries in in 4 months. Had 10 ish pills, but then on to non-narcotics. Some people have a low pain tolerance.. You need to get over yourself. God forbid something happens to you or a loved one..one day u may need help. It is not helpful to vilify those with addictions..By the grace of God go you..

They mentioned injectable drug usage. It looks to me that this particular program is being dedicated to Opioids and it’s next best substitute, Heroin. Research has shown that when you can no longer get a RX or buy on the street..the next drug of choice is Heroin.
