Mason City students have strong showing at spelling bee competition

MASON CITY - The Mason City Community School District (MCCSD) had several students participate in the 5th Annual Regional Competition for the National Civics Bee sponsored by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and hosted by The Greater Mason City Chamber.

National Civics Bee in Mason City, Iowa 2026

MASON CITY – The Mason City Community School District (MCCSD) had several students participate in the 5th Annual Regional Competition for the National Civics Bee sponsored by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and hosted by The Greater Mason City Chamber.

Congratulations to the following students, according to the school district, who will advance to the State Competition at Drake University in June:

1st Place – Ellie Kmoch – Grade 8 (Pictured at top)

2nd Place – Matthew Pavlov – Grade 6

Matthew Pavlov – 2nd Place finisher in the National Civics Bee

3rd Place – Sophia Holland – Grade 7

Sophia Holland – 3rd Place finisher in the National Civics Bee

“Congratulations to all our students who participated! We are so proud of you all!” the district said in a bulletin.
