MASON CITY – Police in Mason City say that at least three dead people were found inside a Mason City residence, an area that has been the subject of numerous complaints to a paralyzed city hall over the years for horrible living conditions.

Shortly before 5:00 PM Saturday afternoon, February 28, 2026, emergency responders were dispatched to a residence in the 500 block of S. Adams Avenue in Mason City, following a report that multiple individuals were found unresponsive inside the home.

Upon arrival, personnel from the Mason City Fire Department and Mason City Police Department entered the residence and located three deceased adults.

“At this stage of the investigation, there are no signs of foul play or struggle,” according to Chief of Police Mike McKelvey.

“A Medical Examiner’s Investigator responded to the scene. The residence—along with the immediate surrounding area—has been secured. This location will remain secured until further notice as authorities continue their investigation.”

No additional information will be released until Monday to ensure proper notifications and investigative steps are completed, according to police.

A phone call to the non-emergency number at the Mason City police department confirmed that the residence involved is 509 South Adams, and they confirmed that there was a police response there today, but refused to answer any other questions.  But, that is not the official word as of yet.

At the 500 block of South Adams in Mason City, there appear to be possibly two residences with generators running and less than full service from city utilities. Screaming has been heard at all hours of the day and sometimes at night. City hall has struggled to deal with the squalor in the area. Police have responded to this street numerous times to deal with drama. Dead geese have been strung up in a nearby backyard. Stumblebum types limp through the area screaming animated conversations to themselves. Cars race down the streets at 50-80 miles per hour despite much slower speed limits – no police in sight most of the time. Trash, debris, stench and now worse have been at residences on this street for years. Neighbors have pleaded with city hall to solve the problem since at least 2017 … but third floor of city hall has failed those taxpayers and the deceased persons who were apparently caught up in these living conditions. Much more to come on this developing story.

509 South Adams, Mason City, Iowa … not officially confirmed, yet, to be the address in question.

  1. These people have families parents children your article is disgusting and ridiculous you’re terrible reporter does your mom follow your stuff I bet she’s so proud. Three people died and all you want to do is b**** about things that are what spose to make them look bad in death ?you’re an idiot get a different job. You basically sound happy that these guys are dead now maybe the block will get cleaned up is that what you’re trying to say what a jerk…..

    1. Waaaaaaaaaa… STFU crybaby.

“These people have families” … sure, where were they while this tragedy occurred? Dumbass.

  2. “Am I missing something? The article seems more factual than opinionated. It appears the critics may have formed an opinion about the reporter before this article was published. Unless, of course, you were very close to the people who lost their lives and had tried to help them before this tragedy occurred. If so, please accept my sincere condolences. I can’t begin to imagine how painful this must be for you.”

    1. It’s just an excuse for the absolute bottom of the barrel lowlifes in MC to rail against me, an innocent, upstanding citizen merely reporting the news – unflinchingly. And I do mean total lowlifes, if you read the comments here and there, they got a lot to say. All full of HOT AIR that lie like a bodily function, never would speak to me in that way in person. And believe me, they all had the chance to do it – we’ve met and words were exchanged. They COWERED. Especially former “neighbors” who also lived like total animals in a nice house that they TRASHED. A landlord would be better off renting to a flock of lobotomized chickens than these scuzzballs. Live and learn.

  3. Reporters like YOU need to be handled in a MUCH more direct fashion! I’m actually surprised you haven’t been……..YET. You are by far the worst I have ever experienced anyway. Nobody needs to hear your opinionated b.s.! 3 people died. All u want to talk about is complaints and city hall? You should take some refresher courses on being not only a good reporter, but also on how to be a decent person. Hopefully you don’t cross the wrong person’s path any time soon, or anytime ever for that matter! You suck! If I want to read a story about city hall and it’s failure to please you or anybody else, I will type in “city hall and it’s failure to please a s**tty reporter” in my search bar!

    1. Weird comment, reads like a fantasy of yours. Back on topic, the entire neighborhood has been full of crime, druggies and miscreants for years. And I mean decades. The city and the courts let these tragedies happen by not saving people from themselves.

      1. Back on topic? That’s the topic? City hall and their failures? Perhaps u should change the headline then! You’re a P.O.S. Fantasy of mine? Not really. I have this other fantasy tho. Not something u might want to hear tho.

        1. Rage much? I decide the narrative on NIT. You can make your own site and write it how you want. (You don’t have the talent to do it) So you’re stuck coming here, into my business, and making an ass out of yourself even worse than you already have in your miserable existence.

          1. Your mom musta never taught u any manners. Any GOOD mother would have taught u to have some respect for the deceased! Or maybe she did, but u being so badass didn’t listen!?! Who really cares. All those others that came face to face with ran because they were punks. Not because u are tough. Luckily none of the people I know or myself has run into u. If we did, we didn’t know it was u. Keep thinking you’re tough. Keep thinking it’s ok to talk to people the way u do. It’ll catch up to ya. U obviously do not believe in karma, but it is for real and it will find u. Karma is a bitch. Doesn’t much care for disrespectful p***ies like yourself. Fr fr!

            1. Sure. Another anonymous clown. What deceased, they are not even named in this story. Dam, the public is dumber than a bag of hammers.

  4. The article seems to gear away from the actual subject of the story. It in my opinion just as you’res seems very snooty and judgemental about the area and those who lost their lives . It’s not that bad of an area I seen worse In Mason city and this area ain’t it.

    1. The daywalkers on the streets of MC should be handled in a more direct fashion, instead of enabling their criminal / lethal ways.

      1. ‘Reporters’ like you should be fined for every personal opinion you insert into a story and claim it is news.

          1. Have you? I have never read a ‘news’ article that is this blatantly slanted. The only ones that are close are Turning Point USA and Infowars

          1. Your comprehension skills are lacking. I said “Reporters’ like you. Last I checked, I wasn’t a reporter.

            1. Every time you write on social media, you are creating content. Either facts (rarely) or opinion, what you put on the internet is the same thing as reporting. Newspapers are dead. Every single person with a social media account is now a reporter.
