John D. Bailey, 85, of Mason City, Iowa, formerly of Clear Lake, Iowa, passed away on February 14, 2026, at Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, February 20, 2026, at the Moose Lodge, 22 4th St NW, Mason City, IA 50401.

John was born October 2, 1940, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Oat and Hazel May (Turner) Bailey. He attended Mason City High School and later worked for Lehigh Cement as a kiln burner for 25 years, retiring in 2003. John was united in marriage to Patricia on January 2, 1960.

John enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He often helped others with home improvement projects and was an avid fisherman. His true passion was supporting and advocating for his fellow workers through his dedication to the labor union.

Those left to honor his memory are his children, Michael (Kim) Bailey of Phoenix, AZ, and Lynne Bailey of Mason City; grandchildren, Maddison (Matt) Gesser of Phoenix, AZ, Elizabeth Latimer of Winfield, KS, Justin Zlenka of Hutchinson, KS, and Abigail and Alexandria Arhart, both of Rochester, MN; great‑grandchildren, Victoria and Ryan Gesser of Phoenix, AZ; and his brother, Spencer “Spike” (Diana) Weaver. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Patricia; daughter, Tammy Arhart; siblings, Otis Bailey, Eugene Bailey, Eleanor Weaver, Claudia Petersen, Larry Bailey, Margaret Quam, Carolyn Bailey, Harvey Bailey, and Peggy Bailey; and his grandson, Christopher Latimer.
