DES MOINES – This Clear Lake resident who is also a registered sex offender for dastardly deeds has been nabbed in Des Moines on felony theft, and he just might not be coming back up north for a good stretch.

Records show 58-year-old Eric Dwayne Pittman, was nabbed on warrant out of Polk county for felony second-degree theft from there.  The case originated way back in 2023, and a warrant had been issued for his arrest over two years ago and remained active.  He was finally nabbed on the evening of January 10, 2026, and taken to the Polk county jail.  He remains held there on no bail, with a public defender, as he also faces charges of escape from custody, violating the sex offender registry and violation of parole.

Pittman is no longer listed as a Clear Lake resident, in fact, he is listed as in custody of US Marshalls on possible federal charges.

Records show Pittman committed heinous crimes.  These include three convictions:

  • Non-Iowa Conviction – Indecent exposure – 01/05/2000

  • Non-Iowa Conviction – Oral copulation – 03/17/2003

  • Non-Iowa Conviction – Sexual pen w/foreign object – 03/17/2003

Pittman (pictured at top) is now awaiting a court hearing in Polk county on January 21, 2026.
