CHARLES CITY – An elderly Charles City woman driver blew right through a red light and smashed into a teen’s Ford, causing thousands in damages and one traffic ticket.

According to Charles City police, the incident took place on December 17, 2025. At 2:14 PM that afternoon, officers were called to the intersection of Clark Street and Brantingham Street for a two-vehicle collision. Police say a 2017 Ford Fusion driven by 18-year-old Talan Schriver-Gates of Charles City was stopped at the stoplight at the intersection and then proceeded forward. The Ford was then struck by a 2009 Toyota Rav4 driven by 88-year-old Patricia Carr of Charles City, as police claim she failed to stop at the stoplight.

As a result of the collision, there was approximately $5,000 in damage done to both vehicles, and Carr was charged with failure to obey a traffic control device. Records show Carr was ordered to pay Iowa courts $210.25.
