A memorial service for Linda Kuhlman Anderson, age 82 of Spirit Lake, will be held at 1:30 PM on Monday, January 12, 2026, at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. A visitation for Linda will begin at 12:30 PM at the funeral home.

Linda passed away on January 2, 2026, at Accura Healthcare in Spirit Lake.

Linda was born September 29, 1943 in Boone, Iowa to parents Sherman and Irene Pohl. She lived on a farm with her parents, 2 brothers (John & Dick), and one grandmother, Anna. Her other grandmother, Euphemia, lived in nearby Ames. She was baptized December 26, 1943 at the Prairie Center Methodist (country) Church. She loved her family including her cousins, hiking in the Ledges, playing school, her cats, and playing basketball, and boating and fishing trips. She attended and graduated from Jordan School and enjoyed the merger of Napier and Luther schools making it the United Community School.

In the early 60’s she completed one year at State College of Iowa and completed the following year at Iowa State University. While at Iowa State she attended a dance with partners determined through the amazing new computer. Computers were a unique thing then. Gary Kuhlman was her first computer match, and it was love at first sight. They were married on June 6, 1964 and moved to Terril, IA where Gary was hired help for a farmer. Later they moved to Spirit Lake, IA where Gary continued to help another farmer and eventually they moved to the home place of his parents just down the road. Sheila, Aleta, and Shawn were all born in Spirit Lake. She loved everything about being a mother and farmwife. When Shawn was in first grade Linda became a school cook, then later a para for Caroline Tritle. This spurred her on to wanting to become her life dream of being a teacher. In the 80’s when farming got tough Linda was able to complete her teaching job and completed her teaching degree through Buena Vista by attending night school classes and completed her special education degree through classes at Mankato. She began teaching as a chapter teacher and then as an elementary special education teacher. They were also foster parents to several teenagers.

After 29 years of marriage Linda went through a divorce. Eventually she met a very caring, fun and loving man (Rich Anderson) who became her husband on May 5, 1996. Overall, she was in the Spirit Lake School system for 25 years from cook to teacher. She moved to Jackson, MN and eventually taught special education in the Jackson Schools (Lakefield and Jackson). She enjoyed that until her retirement time. She joined Our Savior’s Lutheran Church of Jackson, MN. Linda enjoyed her times as being a wife of a building contractor and helping out when needed. In 2011 they began their life on the home place in Spirit Lake with tearing down old buildings and building new. Following Linda’s diagnosis of Lewy Body Dementia, they moved into town.

Linda is survived by her husband Richard, children Tamara (Steve) Madson, Steve Anderson (Christina), Sheila Morrow Tesch, Aleta (Kevin) Myers, Shawn (Alissa) Kuhlman, thirteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, her brother, Dick (Mary) Pohl and sister-in-law Sharon Pohl. Linda was preceded in death by her mother, father, brother, a niece and two nephews, and her first husband.

Blessed be the memory of Linda Sue Anderson.
